Frequently Asked Questions
What rules are used?
MMG Spearhead games use the current Warhammer Age of Sigmar Core Rules, the Spearhead Rules, the relevant Spearhead army rules and the gaming pack named on the event or league page.
The latest official FAQs, errata, rules updates and Battlescroll changes available at the time of the game also apply. Players should check the official Warhammer Age of Sigmar downloads before attending.
Which Spearhead gaming pack will we use?
The event or league page will identify the gaming pack being used. This may be Fire and Jade, Sand and Bone or another current Spearhead gaming pack.
Where a league permits games from more than one valid gaming pack, the players should agree which pack to use when arranging their game. If they cannot agree, the organiser will determine the pack.
Do I need to bring my own board, terrain or cards?
MMG provides the gaming board or mat and suitable terrain unless the event page says otherwise.
Players should bring their Spearhead army, current army rules, dice, measuring tools, tokens and the battle tactic cards required for the gaming pack. Please contact the organiser before the event if you are missing anything essential.
Which Spearhead army can I use?
You may use any official Spearhead army with current rules unless the event or league page states otherwise. Your force must use the models and unit composition specified by its Spearhead rules.
Check the event page carefully where a faction has more than one Spearhead or where updated rules have been published.
Can I change my Spearhead during a league or event?
This varies by event. Some leagues require you to use the same Spearhead army throughout, while other formats may allow you to change between rounds. The relevant event or league page is authoritative.
Regiment abilities and enhancements are selected during the pre-battle sequence in accordance with the Spearhead rules unless the event pack specifically states otherwise.
Are battle tactic cards public or private information?
Your current hand of battle tactic cards and the cards remaining in your draw deck are private information.
Discarded cards are public information. At the start of the second and later battle rounds, any cards discarded before drawing back up to three are discarded face up. A card used for its command or scored as a battle tactic is also discarded after it has been revealed.
- Cards in your hand: private information.
- Cards remaining in your draw deck: private information and kept face down.
- All discarded cards: public information and kept face up.
Players may review public, face-up information, but should not pick up or handle an opponent's cards without permission. Players must never inspect an opponent's hand or draw deck unless a rule specifically permits it.
How do I arrange league games?
League games are arranged through the MMG Community Discord. Players are responsible for making reasonable efforts to contact their opponent and play within the published round deadline.
Do I need to join the MMG Community Discord?
Yes for leagues, and it is strongly recommended for events. Pairings, game scheduling, announcements and important updates are managed through the MMG Community Discord.
How are pairings, results and standings managed?
The event or league page will explain how pairings, results and standings are managed. Depending on the format, this may be through an event platform, the MMG Community Discord or directly by the organiser.
What happens if a league game cannot be arranged?
The organiser will review the circumstances and determine the outcome based on player communication, availability and the reasonable effort made by both players to arrange the game.
Contact the organiser before the round deadline if you are experiencing difficulty arranging your game.
What happens if a player concedes, forfeits or receives a bye?
Concessions, forfeits and byes will be recorded in accordance with the relevant event or league pack. The organiser will confirm the appropriate result and score.
Do my models need to be painted?
Painting requirements vary by event. Check the event or league page for the applicable standard.
Can I use proxies or 3D-printed models?
Reasonable proxies and 3D-printed models may be permitted provided they are clear, appropriately sized and do not infringe intellectual property rights. Please contact the organiser before the event if you are unsure. The organiser's decision is final.
What standard of play is expected?
All games are played in accordance with the MMG Spirit of Play. Players are expected to communicate clearly, treat their opponent and their belongings with respect, and avoid seeking information or advantages outside the rules.
If a disagreement occurs, pause the game and ask the organiser or a member of staff for a ruling. Do not allow an unresolved rules question to spoil the game.
Who do I contact if I have a rules question?
Contact the organiser through the MMG Community Discord or speak to a member of staff at the venue.
