Warhammer The Old World Is Growing Fast at Mighty Melee Games

Warhammer The Old World Is Growing Fast at Mighty Melee Games

There’s no denying it anymore — Warhammer: The Old World is properly taking off at Mighty Melee Games.

What started as a handful of returning generals has rapidly grown into one of the most active and enthusiastic communities in the venue. Every month, more players are joining the ranks, new armies are appearing on the tables, and the Discord channels are constantly buzzing with lists, hobby updates, battle plans, and post-game discussion.

And honestly? It feels brilliant.

A Growing Old World Community

Our current 750-point league has hit 12 players, with a fantastic mix of experienced veterans and newer players getting involved. Smaller points games have proven to be a great entry point into matched play — fast enough to fit into a chilled evening, but still packed with tactical depth and cinematic moments.

Alongside the league, our monthly Old World RTTs are now regularly pulling in around 10 players, and we’ve got space to comfortably grow those events to 20 players as the scene expands.

The really exciting part is that this feels like the beginning rather than the ceiling.

We’re seeing more armies appear every month:

  • Bretonnians riding out to glory
  • Tomb Kings returning from the sands
  • Chaos warbands marching south
  • Dwarfs settling grudges
  • Orcs causing absolute carnage
  • And plenty more besides

Every faction brings its own flavour, and the tables are starting to look properly alive with narrative moments and beautifully themed forces.

The Discord Is Absolutely Banging

One of the best parts of the MMG Old World scene is how active the community has become outside of game night itself.

The Discord has turned into a genuinely lively hub for:

  • Arranging games
  • List discussion
  • Rules chat
  • Hobby progress
  • Event planning
  • Battle photos
  • And the occasional bit of good-natured grudge settling

There’s a real sense that people are invested in the community, not just the games.

A huge shout-out also goes to Ade, who runs the Wargaming For Fun YouTube channel and regularly uploads battle reports featuring games played at MMG. Seeing local games and armies showcased like that has been fantastic for the wider community and really helps capture the atmosphere around the venue.

Supporting the Wider Old World Scene

Something we’re especially proud of is seeing MMG players supporting the wider Old World community beyond our own walls.

Recently, members of the MMG community have attended events run by:

  • Shrewsbury Wargames Society
  • Wrexhammer

That’s exactly the kind of thing we love to see.

Healthy local scenes grow stronger together, and it’s brilliant watching MMG generals getting out there, meeting other players, and representing the venue across the regional event scene.

Hopefully we’ll see even more MMG players flying the flag at events around the Midlands, North Wales, and beyond over the coming months.

What’s Next for Old World at MMG?

We’re fully committed to keeping Old World as a core part of the MMG event calendar moving forward.

The regular schedule will continue to include:

  • 2,000-point RTTs
  • Beginner-friendly smaller point events
  • Doubles events
  • Faster-format tournaments
  • Leagues and escalation campaigns
  • Casual play nights

Not everybody wants to jump straight into full-size competitive games, and smaller formats are proving to be a fantastic way for players to learn the system, build confidence, and get armies onto the table quicker.

The aim is simple: more games, more community, more variety, and more ways to enjoy the hobby.

Play Your Way

One thing that matters to us at MMG is keeping the atmosphere welcoming and pressure-free.

We absolutely love seeing painted armies roll onto the battlefield. A fully painted force, themed terrain, and a beautifully built Baggage Train always turn heads and add to the spectacle of the game.

But equally: you do not need a painted army to play at MMG.

No gatekeeping. No hobby shaming. No pressure.

What matters most is people getting games in, enjoying the hobby their way, and feeling comfortable joining the community regardless of where they are on their hobby journey.

If you’ve got fully painted display armies — amazing.

If you’ve got grey plastic and enthusiasm — also amazing.

Just get involved.

The Old World Feels Alive Again

That’s probably the biggest takeaway from the last few months.

The Old World genuinely feels alive again.

The tables are busy.
The community is growing.
The events are landing well.
The armies look fantastic.
And there’s a real excitement around what comes next.

If you’ve been thinking about getting back into fantasy battles, starting a new army, or finding a local group to play with, there’s never been a better time to jump in.

Join our Discord to get started or pop in anytime.

Battle. Bond. Belong.
