Battletome: Sons of Behemat for Warhammer Age of Sigmar

New Sons of Behemat Releases: Battletome, Spearhead and Ma Maegran

The ground is beginning to shake as the Sons of Behemat prepare for a major new Warhammer Age of Sigmar release.

The colossal servants of the World Titan are receiving a new battletome, a new named character, new Gargant units and their first dedicated Spearhead force. Two additional boxed sets will also offer very different ways to unleash Mega-Gargants upon the Mortal Realms.

Here’s what is joining the Sons of Behemat range.

New Battletome: Sons of Behemat

The new Battletome: Sons of Behemat contains the background, artwork and updated game rules needed to command a towering army of Gargants.

Alongside the faction’s updated battle traits and warscrolls, the book introduces a new Spearhead force and additional Path to Glory content for players who want to develop their own colossal champions across a narrative campaign.

Games Workshop has also revealed some important changes to the way the army plays. Mega-Gargants receive a choice between Calamitous Sweep and Crushing Blow weapon profiles, allowing them to adapt their attacks to either large groups of enemies or tougher individual targets.

Mega-Gargants will have reduced Health characteristics and correspondingly lower points costs. This should make it possible to field more of them, giving Sons of Behemat armies additional options for contesting objectives and completing battle tactics.

Ma Maegran, Chooser of the Mighty

Ma Maegran, Chooser of the Mighty is a powerful new character accompanied by a pair of Ancient Ghyrochs.

Unlike the towering Mega-Gargants, Ma Maegran brings magical support to the army. Her abilities allow her to empower nearby Gargants and potentially replace a destroyed non-unique BIG unit by sacrificing one of her smaller followers.

Her Ancient Ghyrochs provide the physical muscle. These creatures can regenerate damage and become particularly dangerous when charging into combat under Ma Maegran’s direction.

Ma Maegran offers Sons of Behemat players something genuinely different: a distinctive named character who supports the rest of the army through magic and unusual tactical abilities.

Boss-stompers and the New Sons of Behemat Spearhead

The new Boss-stompers box contains three Gargants equipped for close combat. They represent Gargants who take an unusually serious interest in fighting skill and enjoy clubbing their enemies into the ground.

Each model can alternatively be assembled as a Rock-hurler. These ranged Gargants can change how they use their boulders, choosing to drop, toss or roll them depending on the battlefield situation.

Building the three models as Rock-hurlers also creates the new Sons of Behemat Spearhead. This gives the faction its own dedicated force for the fast and accessible Spearhead format.

That makes this one of the most interesting boxes in the release for anyone who wants to begin playing Sons of Behemat without immediately committing to a full-sized army of Mega-Gargants.

Sons of Behemat: Stomper Tribe

The Stomper Tribe boxed set contains one Warstomper Mega-Gargant and three Mancrusher Gargants.

It is designed around the new Stomper Tribe Army of Renown, in which a group of smaller Gargants follows a massive Warstomper into battle.

The Mega-Gargant can alternatively be assembled as a Gatebreaker or Kraken-eater, while the Mancrusher Gargants include cosmetic options that can be used to give each model its own character.

The Stomper Tribe box will be available only while stocks last.

Brawlers of Behemat

Brawlers of Behemat is a standalone game in which two Mega-Gargants fight a destructive duel among the ruins of Embergard.

The box contains two complete Mega-Gargants, each of which can be assembled as a Warstomper, Gatebreaker or Kraken-eater. It also includes accessible rules for battles between the two combatants and a new set of ruined Embergard terrain.

Although it can be played as a self-contained game, the models can also be added to a Sons of Behemat army. That makes the box particularly noteworthy for players looking to acquire two versatile Mega-Gargants together.

Like the Stomper Tribe, Brawlers of Behemat will be available only while stocks last.

Warscroll Cards and Sons of Behemat Dice

The release is completed by a set of Sons of Behemat Warscroll Cards and faction-themed dice.

The dice set contains 16 bone-coloured dice with dark red pips and the Sons of Behemat footprint icon replacing the six.

A Major Expansion for the Sons of Behemat

This is much more than a routine battletome update. Ma Maegran brings a completely new style of character to the faction, Boss-stompers and Rock-hurlers expand its unit choices, and the new Spearhead provides a more approachable route into collecting Sons of Behemat.

Existing players also gain revised rules and new ways to build their armies, while Stomper Tribe and Brawlers of Behemat offer substantial boxed collections for anyone planning to add more Gargants.

The new Sons of Behemat releases will be available to pre-order from Saturday.
