How MMG's Warhammer 40,000 Organised Play Is Growing in 2026

How MMG's Warhammer 40,000 Organised Play Is Growing in 2026

MMG Organised Play Grows Up: A New Chapter for Our 40K Community

When we ran our first Warhammer 40,000 league from our little High Street shop, everything was simple. A handful of players, plenty of chat around the tables and the odd rules decision made over a cup of tea.

Three years on, things look very different.

This summer we're running our biggest league programme yet, with 52 players taking part across both our Singles and Doubles leagues.

  • 28 players in the Singles League.
  • 24 players in the Doubles League.

It's also the first time we've run Singles and Doubles leagues alongside each other, and it's been fantastic to see tables full of league games from Round One.

Four League Seasons Every Year

Our Warhammer 40,000 league programme now follows a regular annual schedule, with new seasons beginning in:

  • January
  • April
  • July
  • October

Our Singles League runs over 10 weeks, with five rounds played on a two-week cadence, giving players plenty of flexibility to fit games around work, holidays and family life.

Our Doubles League runs over nine weeks, with three rounds played on a three-week cadence. Getting four diaries to line up isn't always easy, so we've deliberately built in extra flexibility. League games should be something to look forward to—not another thing to stress about.

More Than Just Leagues

Leagues are only one part of what we're building at Mighty Melee Games.

Alongside them, we currently run a monthly Warhammer 40,000 RTT.

From September, we're expanding our organised play programme even further.

The plan is to offer:

  • One Singles RTT every month
  • Quarterly Doubles events
  • Quarterly Teams events
  • Quarterly GTs

But organised play isn't just about matched play. Along the way, we'll also be sprinkling in narrative events and the occasional mega Apocalypse game—because sometimes it's fun to put competition to one side, throw a ridiculous number of models on the table and simply enjoy the spectacle.

And that's before you even look at our regular weekly gaming nights, where Warhammer 40,000, Age of Sigmar, The Old World, Blood Bowl, Bolt Action and plenty of other systems are played across the venue every week.

Organised play has become part of the rhythm of MMG.

Growing Means Adding a Little Structure

As the community has grown, so has the need for a little more structure.

One of the first real tests came with the latest Games Workshop Balance Dataslate. Our original approach, which had served us well in previous editions, didn't quite translate to 11th Edition.

After plenty of discussion and community feedback, we've settled on a very simple principle.

Games Workshop writes the game. We want our players to enjoy it.

During league update windows, players may update to any legal list within their existing faction.

If a new Codex is released during a league, players using that faction may also rewrite their list using the new rules, provided they remain within the same faction.

Whether it's a Balance Dataslate, points update or new Codex, any list changes happen during the update window between one league round ending and the next beginning. Once pairings for the next round have been published, lists are locked until the next update window.

It's simple. It's objective. It means our TO team isn't making subjective decisions about what players can and can't bring to the table. Their role is simply to apply Games Workshop's published rules fairly and consistently to everyone.

Investing in Organised Play

Another big change over the last year has been investing in our organised play programme.

We've expanded our Tournament Organiser and Referee team, all equipped with the latest Codexes and rules resources to help deliver consistent rulings across our leagues and events.

For 11th Edition, we've also invested in new 11th Edition terrain sets, ensuring our tables reflect the current organised play standard and giving players the best possible experience whether they're preparing for an RTT or GT, or simply enjoying a league game.

Organised play will always generate opinions—and that's fine. We listened to the feedback, challenged our own thinking and ended up with a simpler, more objective policy that lets Games Workshop write the game and MMG runs great events.

As our organised play programme grows, so too does the investment behind it.

Battle. Bond. Belong.

Everything we do comes back to the same three words.

Whether you're chasing the latest meta, bringing your favourite themed army or simply looking to get five great games in over a league season, we want MMG to be somewhere you enjoy playing.

We'll keep listening, we'll keep improving and we'll keep building one of the UK's best organised play communities.

Games Workshop Writes the Game. MMG Runs the Tables.

Whether you're looking for your first league game, your next RTT, a narrative campaign or simply somewhere to roll some dice with a great group of people, we'd love to welcome you.

Keep an eye on our Events Calendar and Discord for upcoming leagues, RTTs, narrative events and the occasional ridiculously oversized Apocalypse battle.
