Mikey’s Secret Sauce: How World Eaters Won the MMG 40K League

Mikey McCann took first place in the MMG Warhammer 40,000 Singles League – Summer 2026, leading his World Eaters through five rounds of league play.

Following our full Summer 2026 league results, we asked Mikey to talk us through his army, how it worked on the tabletop and his first impressions of World Eaters in the new edition.

Mikey’s World Eaters Army

At the heart of Mikey’s army were Angron, 20 Berzerkers led by Khârn and a Master of Executions, supported by two squads of scouting Eightbound.

He also brought:

• One unit of Exalted Eightbound led by the “ultimate monster killer”, Slaughterbound
• A Daemon Prince of Khorne
• Two squads of Chaos Spawn
• Some “chaff” – mainly Jakhals, later followed by Goremongers when the list dropped by 100 points

Building an Army That Hits Fast and Hard

Mikey’s reasoning behind the army was refreshingly straightforward:

“I wanted to run an army I wouldn’t have to think too much about, and with the changes to shooting I wanted an army that was all melee so I wouldn’t have to adapt to all the new 11th changes all at once.”

“My army does one thing, and that’s run up the board fast and hit hard.”

Mikey’s Secret Sauce

The humble Chaos Spawn proved to be Mikey’s unlikely stars of the league.

“Definitely Chaos Spawn. Their ability to be able to move 24 inches and still charge turn one kept my opponents honest with their deployments and allowed for my favoured turn-one alpha strike to be a real threat.”

Mikey’s second favourite unit was his Exalted Eightbound led by Slaughterbound:

“Second favourite, Exalted Eightbound led by Slaughterbound. They rapid ingress, move, charge and kill literally anything in the game!”

What Would Mikey Change?

Despite winning the league, Mikey could still see room to adapt the army as the new competitive environment develops.

“The meta game has a lot more chaff in it for screening. I would definitely be fielding a Forgefiend or two to deal with one of the hardest counters to World Eaters.”

He is also considering changes to his detachment and the balance of the army:

“I’m hoping for the Berzerker Warband detachment to drop to 2DP to help the faction, as they are struggling on the tournament scene. That opens up a lot more build crafting!”

World Eaters in 11th Edition

Mikey’s first impressions of World Eaters in 11th Edition are mixed. He has enjoyed playing the army, but feels that its points costs and the edition’s faster shooting make life difficult for a combat-focused faction.

“11th Edition hasn’t been great for them so far. Points costs are very high and the lack of shooting in a fast-shooting edition hurts them, but the changes to charges have been a net positive for them!”
